Seeking a European partner to progress Omflow’s R&D activities, a representative will attend the Technology Cooperation Days (external) at the Hannover Fair in Germany.

Omflow has completed the design of a high-level software concept in conjunction with the University of Nottingham and plans to begin Phase 2 this year, subject to funding.This will include due diligence and developing an advanced prototype.

Omflow’s Managing Director, Stephen Powley, has recently been invited to give two talks at leading universities.Dave Voorhis, Computer Science Programme Leader, one of Omflow’s R&D partners invited Stephen to run a workshop with Computer Science students at the University of Derby about applying requirements engineering to software development.

Stephen also went to Portsmouth (external link) to give a talk to Masters students about engineering and translation, focusing on the skills and knowledge to translate technical texts so that the results are fit for purpose.While some engineers may use Google Translate to obtain the gist of a piece of text, this is clearly no substitute for experienced human translation when it comes to safety-critical and other complex systems.

2016 got off to a good start for Omflow with exciting projects confirmed for the months ahead.We have already completed interesting technical editing projects in the fields of mechanical engineering and B2B software.Work continues on multilingual website development and documentation services, as well as preparations for ISO 9001:2015 certification.

Omflow’s MD visited his alma mater, the University of Leeds, to give a presentation to a group of translators about protecting data and securing the lifeblood of their businesses as part of a workshop organised by Yorkshire Translators and Interpreters.Read more here (external link).
